Colossi Arte Contemporanea Gallery is pleased to invite you on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 5:30 PM to the opening of Giancarlo Montuschi's solo exhibition, AUTO-RITRATTO. The Automobile in Cinema.
Montuschi’s visual language—whimsical and fantastical—blends alchemical-esoteric elements with pop influences, creating artworks that serve as a bridge between nostalgia and modernity. His work stands out for its ability to create a dialogue between elements of past society and the contemporary world.
The exhibition AUTO-RITRATTO. The Automobile in Cinema focuses on cars that have achieved significant visibility in films and TV series—platforms that have long been essential for car manufacturers to showcase and promote their latest models. Among the works on display are depictions of the iconic silver Aston Martin DB5 driven by secret agent 007, Diabolik’s Jaguar E-type chased by Inspector Ginko’s Citroën DS, the Alfa Romeo Spider "Duetto" from The Graduate, and the 1968 Ford Gran Torino featured in the film of the same name.
The exhibition title, with the play on the word “auto-ritratto” (self-portrait), alludes to the symbolic relationship between the vehicle and its owner. Over time, cars have increasingly become symbols of individual status and extensions of personal lifestyle. On one hand, the desire to own and control a car can be seen as an expression of the need for autonomy and self-assertion. On the other, cars can be interpreted as extensions of the human body—technological prostheses that enhance our mobility and our ability to interact with space.
Join us from June 14 for this journey aboard some of the most iconic cars in the history of cinema.
